PM Dahal briefs: Oli engaged in conspiratorial politics

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ briefed party MPs, accusing former coalition partner and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli of engaging in deceit and conspiratorial politics.

During the parliamentary party meeting on Wednesday, Chairman Dahal detailed his recent interactions with Oli.

Following speculation about an agreement between the NC and UML, the two leaders had a nearly three-hour discussion on July 1.

PM Dahal recalled offering to resign if Oli wished to become the prime minister.

However, Oli reassured him with false promises of making the government more effective and forming a TOR for political appointments, denying any intention to change the coalition.

According to Maoist Center Chief Whip Hit Raj Pandey, even in their subsequent meeting on July 2, Oli did not disclose any agreement with the Nepali Congress, leaving PM Dahal misled.

“Nothing is finalized, just a meeting among the leaders, Oli had said” Dahal briefed the lawmakers.

Prime Minister Dahal later confirmed the agreement with Sher Bahadur Deuba, expressing that Oli’s deceptive politics were clear.

He stated his goal of allying with UML was to unify the left forces.

“Oli’s conspiracy might seem damaging now, but it will ultimately harm UML in the long run,” the Maoist Center Chairman asserted.

PM Dahal plans to seek a vote of confidence on July 12 to uphold and implement the constitution, making it easier for the President to initiate the formation of a new government.

A Maoist MP mentioned, “If we don’t get the vote of confidence, the President will have to proceed under Article 76(3), and he is confident this will happen.”

The Maoist Center parliamentary party has issued a whip for MPs to support PM Dahal in the vote of confidence and has decided to engage in dialogue with parties committed to constitutional protection.
