Maoist Center to take action against NSP lawmaker Devkota for ‘floor crossing’ in Gandaki

POKHARA: The CPN-Maoist Center is set to take disciplinary action against Nepal Samajbadi Party (NSP) lawmaker Phanindra Devkota for ‘floor crossing’ and voting in favor of  Gandaki province Chief Minister Surendra Pandey.

Maoist Center’s Gandaki Parliamentary Party leader Hari Bahadur Chuman stated that action was initiated after Devkota defied the party whip and voted for Pandey, who is also the parliamentary leader of the Nepali Congress.

Devkota was elected in 2022 under the Maoist Center symbol, making him a member of the Maoist parliamentary party.

Claiming allegiance to Baburam Bhattarai’s NSP, Devkota ignored the Maoist Center’s whip and voted for the Chief Minister, leading to disciplinary measures, according to Chuman.

The Maoist Center had issued a whip to oppose the vote of confidence for Chief Minister Pandey.

However, Devkota, a member of the Maoist Center parliamentary party, violated this directive and crossed the floor.
