Budget session uncertain as NC stands firm on demand for probe committee

KATHMANDU: The fate of the budget session of parliament, scheduled for Friday, hangs in uncertainty as the Nepali Congress (NC) persists with its demand for a parliamentary committee to probe the cooperative fraud case.

The NC has been steadfast in its call for an investigation into the case, suspecting the involvement of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.

Efforts to break the impasse saw Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire convening meetings with chief whips and whips of major political parties.

However, these discussions failed to yield an agreement, as the NC remained resolute in its stance.

Currently, parties are engaged in internal deliberations on the matter, with the parliament meeting summoned for 12:00 still uncertain to proceed as scheduled.
