Constitution amendment vital for political stability: Dr. Shekhar Koirala

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has emphasized that political stability in the country hinges on amending the current Constitution.

Addressing the 23rd federal convention of the Nepal Teachers Union on Wednesday, Dr. Koirala pointed out that instability has surged in the country due to flaws in the electoral system, stressing the imperative of constitutional amendment to pave the way forward.

“Despite multiple stints in power, the communists failed to draft a constitution since the inception of the Constituent Assembly. It was only during the tenure of the NC-led government in the second Constituent Assembly that the constitution was eventually promulgated. This underscores the notion that NC holds the key to change,” he remarked. “Hence, it is crucial for the Congress and UML to collaborate in amending the constitution.”

Dr. Koirala reaffirmed his dedication to political stability, good governance, and development as his primary agenda. He urged party members to unify and brace themselves to contest elections independently, setting aside internal discord and grievances.
