Koshi calls special session of Province Assembly on April 18
A special session of the Province Assembly of Koshi has been summoned for April 18. Koshi Province Chief Parashuram Khapung, at the request of more than a quarter of the provincial assembly members, has called for the special session at 1 pm on April 18. Earlier, Chief Minister Kedar Karki’s government had recommended May 24 for the assembly session.
CAAN rejects ADB’s approximately 8 billion rupees loan proposal
Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN),Pradeep Adhikari, has declined a loan proposal worth around 8 billion rupees from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The ADB had proposed a loan of around 8 billion rupees for the construction of the second terminal building at Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa. A team of ADB officials, responsible for assessing Nepal’s loan requests, met with Director General Adhikari on Tuesday to present the proposal.
Air pollution reaches year’s peak, likely to worsen with uncontrolled wildfires
The air pollution in Nepal has soared to its highest level of the year, primarily due to widespread wildfires across the country. According to the Air Quality Index (AQI), Kathmandu’s AQI has surged to 265, placing it at the top of the global list of the most polluted cities. Just a day ago, on Tuesday, the federal capital recorded an AQI of 200.
NC President Deuba calls for unity among party members
Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba emphasized the need for unity among all party members and leaders to strengthen the party. Speaking at a program organized by the working committee of NC Rupandehi constituency no. 3 to exchange Nepali New Year greetings, President Deuba urged party cadres and leaders to work together in the party’s best interest. Acknowledging the numerous challenges facing the Nepali Congress at present, he advised party members to resolve any differences and confront these challenges unitedly.
Karnali CM Kandel takes oath to office and secrecy
Newly appointed Chief Minister of Karnali province, Yamlal Kandel, has sworn to his office on Wednesday. Chief Minister Kandel took his oath to office and secrecy before Province Chief Tilak Pariyar. Kandel, who serves as the parliamentary leader of the UML in the province, was appointed as the Chief Minister on Tuesday.
Bimala Ghimire elected Vice Chairperson of National Assembly
Bimala Ghimire, a lawmaker from the CPN-UML, has been elected as the Deputy Chairperson of the National Assembly. Ghimire secured 39 votes to clinch victory over her competitor, Nepali Congress candidate Bishnu Devi Pudasaini, who only managed to gather 16 votes.
Govt committed to boosting economic transformation: PM Dahal
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ affirmed the government’s dedication to accelerating the country’s economic transformation by bolstering the morale of entrepreneurs and investors. NC and RPP obstruct Parliament, HoR meeting postponed until April 14
The lawmakers from main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) have obstructed the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday. As soon as the Speaker began the zero hour session in the parliament, the lawmakers from the NC and RPP stood up in protest. Previously, the Speaker had allocated time for the lawmakers of various political parties.
Kathmandu tops global rankings as most polluted city
In a concerning revelation, Kathmandu, the federal capital of Nepal, has been identified as the most polluted city worldwide in terms of air quality. As of 8:45 am, the current air quality in Kathmandu has been classified as very unhealthy, with PM2.5 levels soaring to 258 micrograms per cubic meter (μg/m3). PM2.5, the primary airborne pollutant consisting of solid or liquid droplets with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometers, poses significant health risks.
Govt declares public holiday for Eid on Thursday
The government has announced a public holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr on Thursday. The Ministry of Home Affairs released a notice on Wednesday, confirming the decision to observe a public holiday on Thursday. After the prayers, Muslims exchange greetings and share various homemade delicacies. Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is a sacred period during which Muslims observe Roza (fasting) for 30 days.
