DAMAULI: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that preservation of languages should begin at home.
Inaugurating the 12th general convention of Tamu Bidhyarthi Chhoja Dhi in Damauli on Saturday, Minister Gurung called for working for the preservation of languages and cultures adding that the extinction of language results in the extinction of culture.
He said that the development of a culture to communicate in the mother language at home contributes to the preservation of language and asked the parents to communicate with their children in their mother languages.
Minister Gurung, also the spokesperson of the government, said that the government was committed to preserving the language of every ethnic community.
He said the youths should stay and work within the country and, for this, they should opt for self-entrepreneurship.
“I urge the youths to move ahead with the aspirations to do something within the country. For this, studies of technical education is needed that helps makes them independent,” Minister Gurung viewed.
On a separate context, Minister Gurung said that the Lahure culture among the Gurung youths has kept them behind in Nepal’s civil service, security bodies, banking and other sectors.
He asked the members from the Gurung organizations to join national politics and added that such organizations are the power centres for the Gurung community.
On the occasion, Chief of District Coordination Committee, Tanahun, Shantiraman Wagle said all should unite for the preservation of language and cultures.
General Secretary of Tamu Yuwa Chhoja Dhi Manraj Gurung, student leaders Pravin Shrestha, Rajesh Shrestha, Sudin Poudel and others urged the Gurung youths to dream their future within the country.
The three-day-long general convention of Chhoja Dhi is scheduled to select the new leadership, coordinator of general convention main organizing committee Bishwaraj Gurung said.
He said that 1,500 representatives are participating in the general convention.
The organization was established in 1996.
