PM Oli stresses ‘serious discussion’ on dual citizenship issue

KATHMANDU: The International Coordination Council of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) today donated Rs 51 lakh to Prime Minister KP Oli for the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

The contribution was presented at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar by a delegation led by Badri KC. Chairman Dr.

KC expressed his sadness over the recent floods and landslides, emphasizing that, in addition to this donation, they are committed to providing further relief efforts.

He noted challenges in utilizing ‘NRNA citizenship’ for economic and social initiatives.

Prime Minister Oli expressed gratitude for the humanitarian assistance during the disaster and reiterated that while a once-Nepali citizen remains a Nepali at heart, they forfeit their political rights in Nepal upon acquiring foreign citizenship.

He stressed the need for serious discussions to address the complexities surrounding dual citizenship.

PM Oli highlighted his longstanding interest in the role of non-resident Nepalis in Nepal’s prosperity, even before the establishment of the NRNA.

He suggested that those who go abroad for work should not be classified as NRNAs and urged that the association evolve into a unified organization for all non-resident Nepalis, rather than one based on political affiliations.
