SUDURPASCHIM: The Chief of Sudurpaschim Province, Nazir Miya, has summoned the fifth session of the Province Assembly (PA) for 2:00 PM on August 11.

According to the PA Secretariat, the session was convened by the Province Chief on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, in accordance with Article 183(1) of the Constitution.

The Sudurpaschim government prorogued the fourth session two days ago and introduced an ordinance on revenue collection on Thursday, which was authenticated by the Province Chief the same day.

With the ordinance in effect, revenue collection at the provincial level, which had been hampered due to the absence of an approved budget for the current fiscal year, has resumed.

The budget for the fiscal year 2081-82 BS, presented to the PA on June 15, could not be passed after the government led by then-Chief Minister Dirgha Bahadur Sodari fell into a minority following a shift in the political landscape at the federal level.

Despite the resumption of tax collection, the budget deadlock continues.

The current Chief Minister is preparing to take necessary actions to pass the budget after securing a vote of confidence in the PA.

The 53-member Sudurpaschim PA is composed of 18 members from the Nepali Congress, 11 from the CPN (UML), 10 from the CPN (Maoist Centre) excluding the Speaker, seven from the People’s Freedom Party (Nagarik Unmukti), four from the CPN (Unified Socialist), one from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and one independent member.
