Parliamentary committee begins recording statements from cooperatives operators involved in fraud

KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Investigation Committee, established to probe the cooperatives fraud case, began recording statements from operating members and other individuals involved in the case on Friday.

The committee, led by CPN-UML lawmaker Surya Bahadur Thapa Chhetri, includes two representatives each from the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML, and one representative each from the CPN-Maoist Center, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).

According to committee member Sarita Bhushal, statements were recorded from various individuals associated with Gautam Shree Multipurpose Cooperatives, Laligurans Multipurpose Cooperatives, and Gorkha Saving Cooperatives on Friday.

Prior to questioning the operating members of the cooperatives, the committee held a meeting at Singha Durbar earlier today.

Tasked with concluding the investigation within three months, the committee has already completed the evidence collection and other preliminary processes.

It has now begun recording statements from individuals accused of involvement in the fraud, including those currently imprisoned.

Earlier, the committee had directed the Home Ministry to extradite 18 individuals involved in the fraud who had fled to foreign countries.
