KATHMANDU: Nepal will begin exporting electricity to Bangladesh starting this year, according to Kulman Ghising, Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

Speaking at a press conference marking the third anniversary of his second tenure, Ghising highlighted the significant progress made in the country’s energy sector.

Over the past eight years, more than Rs 100 billion has been invested in electricity production and distribution, with the NEA’s income also exceeding Rs 100 billion.

“Nepal will soon start exporting electricity to Bangladesh via India,” Ghising announced.

He added that a power trade agreement will be signed once the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh is resolved.
