KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Special Investigation Committee, formed to address the misuse of cooperative savings, held discussions today with the current and former registrars of the Cooperative Department.
During the discussions, both the registrar and former registrar emphasized the need for policy, structural, and procedural reforms, according to committee secretary Babita Mishra.
The committee is currently gathering documents from relevant agencies and listening to their insights and understanding of the issues.
The committee, which has been active for a month, is also preparing to discuss with those affected by the cooperative problems.
After prolonged protests by the main opposition party, Nepali Congress, the parliament formed the committee a month ago to investigate issues within cooperatives.
The committee’s responsibilities include studying the status of the affected savers’ funds, recommending solutions, examining whether legal procedures were followed when transferring funds from the troubled cooperatives to Gorkha Media Network, and other related tasks.
