KATHMANDU: The Bangladesh Power Development Board has invited Nepal to finalize a trade agreement for 40 megawatts of electricity.
The board has sent a letter to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to this effect.
If the deal is finalized, Bangladesh will import 40 megawatts of electricity produced in Nepal during the monsoon season for six months each year.
According to NEA Executive Director Kulman Ghising, all procedures have been completed, and the export of electricity to Bangladesh can begin within this year.
Under the agreement, Nepal will export 40 megawatts of electricity to Bangladesh annually from June 15 to November 15 for the next five years.
The NEA expects to receive 6.40 cents per unit once the export begins.
