Landslides and floods obstruct 19 highways

KATHMANDU: As monsoon rains continue to pummel Nepal, 19 highways across the country are completely blocked due to floods and landslides, disrupting traffic.

According to Nepal Police, as of Monday evening, 14 road sections have been opened for one-way traffic to facilitate movement.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki, Central Spokesperson for Nepal Police, highlighted that key routes such as Karnali Highway in Kalikot, Madan Bhandari Highway in Surkhet, and several others including the East-West Highway in Kanchanpur are among those completely closed.

Similarly, roads like Rolpa’s Martyr Highway and sections of Ridi-Baglung are impassable due to debris.

Meanwhile, Armed Police Force Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General Kumar Neupane reported that a landslide-blocked road in Nagarkot, Changunarayan Municipality-6 of Bhaktapur, was reopened on Monday with the efforts of Armed Police personnel.

The impact of the monsoon has directly affected roads in 27 districts, underscoring the ongoing challenges posed by the seasonal weather.
