RSP to decide on suspended General Secretary Dhakal today

KATHMANDU; The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is set to make a crucial decision regarding the suspended General Secretary, Dr. Mukul Dhakal, today.

The party’s Disciplinary Committee, headed by Dr. Bharat Devkota, has finalized its report after investigating Dhakal.

The report has been submitted to RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, with initial discussions already held during a Secretariat meeting.

The Central Committee will convene on Tuesday to formally decide on the action against Dhakal, following party statutory mandates.

Previously suspended for seven days pending investigation, Dhakal’s fate will be determined as the period concludes today.

The meeting will also address the appointment of a new General Secretary and Central Spokesperson, alongside other significant party matters.

It should be recalled that Dr. Dhakal, the General Secretary and Spokesperson of RSP, has been suspended following a decision made during the party’s central committee meeting on late Wednesday.

The meeting cited breaches of party discipline and rules as reasons for his suspension, which will last for seven days.

The decision was announced publicly after concerns were raised during the meeting regarding the live broadcast of proceedings, where Dhakal protested by symbolically covering his mouth with a blacl band, amid objections from other central members.

Dhakal has publicly criticized party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, alleging that Lamichhane has unfairly targeted him while avoiding accountability for various party issues, including the cooperative case.
