KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is flying to New Delhi, India to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (Sunday) afternoon.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, PM Dahal is embarking on this official visit at the cordial invitation of Indian PM Modi.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for today in New Delhi.

PM Dahal will be accompanied by his daughter Ganga Dahal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri, and other high-ranking government officials.

He is returning to Nepal on June 10.

An official at the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi informed that PM Dahal will hold a brief meeting with his Indian counterpart today itself.

PM Dahal’s last official visit to India was a year ago.

Last Wednesday, PM Dahal had a telephonic conversation with PM Modi following Modi’s victory in the recent Lok Sabha election.

During the conversation, they discussed mutual cooperation and common interests.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by PM Modi, secured 293 seats in the Lok Sabha election held in seven phases, with Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning 240 seats.

With the support of the NDA, BJP leader Modi is scheduled to take the oath of office for a third consecutive term on Sunday afternoon, according to Indian media.

Indian President Draupadi Murmu will administer the oath of office to PM Modi during a special function at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.

Heads of state and government from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Mauritius have also been invited by the Indian government to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
