NC leader advocates for mid-term elections in Koshi Province

BIRATNAGAR: Calls within the Nepali Congress (NC) for mid-term elections in the Koshi Province are gaining momentum, with party leader Surmaraj Rai, a former MP, spearheading the demand.

Rai asserts that the Nepali Congress must push for mid-term elections in Koshi without hesitation or internal discord.

“In Koshi Province, the Nepali Congress should announce mid-term elections, embracing the democratic process and viewing it as a strategic political move for the party,” stated Rai.

He emphasized the opportunity for a comprehensive explanation of Article 168(5) of the Constitution through mid-term elections in the state.

As the political turmoil persists in the Koshi Province, there’s a growing clamor within the Nepali Congress for mid-term elections.

With the formation of the government under Kedar Karki in accordance with Article 168(5) of the Constitution, questions have emerged regarding whether it should revert to Article 2 or dissolve the Provincial Assembly.

Following the loss of the majority by Karki’s government, both the CPN-UML and Maoist Center have expressed intentions to revert to Article 168 and present their claim to the Chief Minister.

However, on Wednesday, Province Chief Parshuram Khapung called for claims to be submitted by 5 pm on Friday, as per clause 5.
