Seven Nepalis die in jeep mishap in India

KATHMANDU: Seven Nepalis lost their lives and two others got injured after their vehicle veered off the road and plummeted into a 200-foot-deep gorge in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand, India late Monday night.

According to sources, the accident occurred around 10:30 pm near the Betalghat area, approximately 60 kilometers from the district headquarters in Nainital.

Among the nine occupants of the vehicle, who were all residents of Mahendranagar in Nepal and employed as laborers in Uttarakhand, two Nepali nationals sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.

A senior official stated that the group of Nepalis was en route to their homes when the tragic accident transpired.

The deceased have been identified as Vish Ram (50), Dheeraj (45), Anant Ram Chaudhary (40), Vinod Chaudhary (38), Uday Ram Chaudhary (55), Tilak Ram Chaudhary (45), and Gopal (60), along with the driver, Rajendra Kumar (38), a resident of Baskot village in Betalghat, were among those killed.

The two injured individuals, identified as Shanti Chaudhary and Chhotu Chaudhary, both Nepalese nationals, are currently undergoing treatment.
