JUMLA: Approximately 800 households in the district are facing a blackout for the past two days due to electricity disruption.

The Dillichaur hydropower project, responsible for supplying electricity, failed to generate power due to a halt in water supply. A landslide damaged the canal that supplies water to the hydropower project.

The damaged canal, with a collapsed 25-meter stretch, has disrupted water supply, leading to the power outage. Despite locals noticing cracks on the canal wall earlier, repairs were not conducted in time, according to Krishna Bahadur Budha, Chairman of Vidyut Cooperatives.

Technicians estimate that it will cost Rs 600 thousand to reconstruct the damaged channel.

The affected households, primarily from ward no 4, 5, and 6 of Patarasi rural municipality, are enduring difficulties due to the lack of electricity. The power outage has also hampered the daily operations of government offices, banks, and financial institutions.

To address the issue, Rs 300 thousand has been allocated from the rural municipality for the reconstruction of the hydropower canal. Purna Singh Bohara, Chair of the rural municipality, assured that efforts are underway to restore power supply at the earliest.
