Maoist Center to nominate candidate for National Assembly Chairman on Sunday

KATHMANDU: The CPN-Maoist Center is set to finalize its candidate for the position of National Assembly Chairman on Sunday.

According to Maoist Center Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey, the parliamentary party meeting held in Kathmandu on Saturday decided to finalize the candidate to contest the post of National Assembly Chair on Sunday.

“Prime Minister and Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has indicated that a decision regarding the candidate will be made until Sunday,” he said, discussing with the media after the meeting.

Maoist Center sources claimed that Prime Minister Dahal wants to take the prerogative of picking the name for NA Chair and hold the decision of negotiating with other parties as he likes and he wants the office bearers’ meeting to affirm his plans.

“There is a discussion about holding the office bearers’ meeting tomorrow morning and making a decision on it,” said a lawmaker under the condition of not disclosing his name.

Three names including incumbent Vice Chairman of National Assembly Urmila Aryal, Narayan Dahal and Jhakku Prasad Subedi have been regarded as the prospective names for National Assembly Chairman.

“Given Jhakku Subedi has six years of tenure, it seems the probability is high for him,” he said.
