NA Chairman election: Candidacy registration on Monday



KATHMANDU: The registration of candidates for the National Assembly Chairmanship position is scheduled for Monday, March 11.

The voting is set to take place on Tuesday, March 12.

Urmila Aryal, the Vice-Chairperson of the National Assembly, announced, “After discussions with members of the parliamentary party leaders and the Organizational, Discipline, and Consultation Committee, it has been agreed to schedule registration of the candidates on March 11.”

During her tenure as the chair, discussions were held with the leaders, chief whip, chief secretary, and members of the Organizational, Discipline, and Consultation Committee of the party to finalize the five members of the committee.

Assistant Spokesperson of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Dasharath Dhamala, informed that after consultation with political parties and their chief whip in the parliament, an agreement has been reached to conduct the election for the chairman on March 12.

Earlier, the National Assembly had publicly declared the election program for the chairman on March 12 when releasing its tentative work schedule.

“The announcement regarding the registration and election program, along with regular activities, will be made on Sunday, March 10, after the meeting of the National Assembly,” Dhamala stated.

On March 3, the term of the twenty members of the National Assembly ended. With the completion of the term, the election process for the Chairman of the National Assembly is being accelerated.

The position of the Chairman has become vacant after Ganesh Prasad Timilsina’s term ended.

Among the twenty vacant positions, nineteen have already been filled, and the remaining position will be fulfilled by President at the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

Vice-Chairperson Aryal oversees the regular activities and the National Assembly meeting in the absence of the Chairman.
