KATHMANDU:  In a positive development, the South Korean government has given the green signal for all applicants of the EPS (Employment Permit System) Korean language examination to participate in the upcoming exams.

The announcement was confirmed by Dandu Raj Ghimire, the Director General at the Foreign Employment Department.

This decision comes after a recent dispute in Kathmandu, where the EPS Korea Section initially declared restrictions on shipbuilding applicants from taking part in the language examinations. The move led to clashes between students and the police, resulting in the tragic loss of two Nepali youths. In response to the turmoil, the High Court issued two orders, compelling authorities to allow shipbuilding applicants to participate in other Korean language exams.

Addressing the situation, Ghimire informed that the HRD Center of Korea has now granted permission for all applicants to take part in the language examinations.

The exams are scheduled to kick off from January 20 in three phases, with an estimated 47,000, 80,000, and 37,000 applicants participating in the first, second, and third phases, respectively.

A substantial number of 164,716 students have submitted applications, aspiring to work in Korea’s manufacturing sector, reflecting the high demand for employment opportunities in the country.
