KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has lodged a formal complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), accusing the government of treating RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane vindictively and violating his human rights.
The party has also called on both national and international communities to ensure the protection of Lamichhane’s life, uphold his human rights, and ensure justice is served.
The petition, filed by RSP Acting General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti, demands that Lamichhane’s fundamental rights be safeguarded.
It also calls for a thorough, impartial investigation into the alleged human rights violations he has faced and for the perpetrators to be held accountable in accordance with the law.
In its petition, the RSP has urged the Commission to take proactive measures to defend the judicial system, rule of law, and democratic human rights in Nepal.
“We draw attention to the fact that the state machinery has subjected Lamichhane to various forms of mental torture and violated his human rights, including violations of his privacy and dignity,” the petition states.
The party has further alleged that state institutions have been systematically using media to tarnish Lamichhane’s reputation, falsely portraying him as a criminal.
It has accused the police administration and other state bodies of deliberately leaking confidential investigation documents to the media in an attempt to mislead the public.
“Lamichhane is being defamed, his privacy invaded, and his character assassinated. It is clear that the state machinery is being systematically mobilized to target a public figure, undermining the judicial process,” the petition has asserted.
The RSP has also expressed concern over the inhumane manner in which Lamichhane was transferred from Chitwan to Pokhara.
The RSP has condemned this action as “inhumane, humiliating, and unjust,” describing it as an attempt to torture a political leader through the misuse of state machinery.
Additionally, the letter has raised concerns about the disappearance of Lamichhane’s personal diary while in custody.
