KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that arrangements will be made to allow vehicles to travel on the BP Highway, which has been blocked due to recent disasters, within the next week, including necessary diversions.
Speaking at a program following his inspection of the flood- and landslide-affected areas in Khurkot, Sindhuli, Home Minister Lekhak stated that the road department and the Nepali Army are prepared to temporarily reopen the BP Highway, which suffered significant damage from heavy rains.
“There has been extensive damage on the BP Highway, but we will make arrangements for vehicle passage with diversions within a week,” he affirmed.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to address the disaster’s impacts, the Home Minister called for unity to swiftly overcome these challenges.
“Let’s focus on solutions instead of dwelling on problems. The government is here as everyone’s guardian,” he said.
He stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to tackle the disaster’s aftermath. “This issue transcends politics; there are no sides or opposition in our response.”
The Home Minister also urged municipalities to promptly submit beneficiary details.
“We will provide immediate relief of Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000, and Rs 25,000 as the first installment for temporary housing construction within three days of receiving beneficiary information,” he noted.
In the meantime, a monitoring team, including Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal, Minister of Defense Manbir Rai, and Chief of Army Staff Ashokraj Sigdel, assessed the flood and landslide impacts in Sindhuli, Sindhupalchok, and Lalitpur.
Earlier, the Home Minister inspected the affected areas in the Godavari region of Kavrepalanchowk and Lalitpur.
