Authorities crack down on overloaded vehicles

MALEKHU: The District Administration Office of Dhading has launched a crackdown on vehicles with red number plates carrying passengers in violation of capacity limits.

In response to a rising number of unauthorized passenger transports, local authorities have intensified their enforcement efforts.

Many jeeps overloaded with goods are also transporting passengers from the headquarters to rural areas.

Some vehicles traveling from these rural regions back to the headquarters have been stopped mid-route and fined up to 20,000.

Chief District Officer Suman Ghimire emphasized that action was necessary after repeated warnings to offenders.

He noted that Bolero jeeps with red number plates have been specifically targeted for enforcement after the administration communicated regulations to transporters, drivers, and relevant representatives multiple times.

In recent days, both the Chief District Officer and the Superintendent of Police have been actively monitoring markets and traffic.

Their teams are inspecting activities that undermine consumer safety. During these operations, officials discovered vehicles with red number plates carrying passengers beyond their capacity, prompting immediate intervention.

Two jeeps traveling from Dhadingbensi to Maidi in Jamalukhi Rural Municipality were each fined 20,000 for carrying more passengers than permitted.

In one case, over 20 passengers were found in a jeep designed for just five, including the driver, leading to the vehicle’s seizure and the imposition of penalties.
