Capital expenditure only 52 percent on final payment day: Spending exceeds revenue by Rs 319 billion
As of today, the final day for payments in the current fiscal year (FY), the Nepal government has spent RS 1.322 trillion. By the same time, the government has collected only RS 1.023 trillion in revenue, non-revenue, and grants, achieving just 68.09 percent of its target. As of Monday afternoon, with income and expenditure figures considered, the government faces a deficit of Rs 319.91 billion. Of the total expenditure, capital spending stands at Rs 157.69 billion, amounting to just 52.2 percent of the allocated budget.
Resignations of JSP ministers approved
President Ramchandra Paudel has accepted the resignations of the ministers from the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP). Health and Population Minister Pradeep Yadav, Forest and Environment Minister Nawal Kishore Sah Sudi, and Health and Population State Minister Haseena Khan represented Ashok Rai-led JSP in Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. President Poudel, in accordance with Article 77, Sub-Article (2), Clause (a) of the Constitution of Nepal, accepted the resignations.
UML accuses PM of steering the country towards instability
Chief Whip of the CPN-UML, Mahesh Bartaula, has leveled accusations of attempting to destabilize the country against Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda. Speaking during today’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), Bartaula claimed that despite being in the minority, efforts were underway to prolong the government’s tenure. He alleged that Baluwatar’s (PM’s official residence) actions were aimed at steering Nepal towards instability by obstructing the formation of a new government.
Cooperative scam: Governor suggests three-tier classification for returning cooperative funds
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari has suggested a three-tier classification system based on savings amounts to facilitate the return of funds to cooperative savers. During a meeting of the parliamentary investigation committee on cooperative savings held at Singha Durbar on Monday, Governor Adhikari proposed categorizing savers into three groups: those with savings up to RS 100,000, those with savings up to Rs 500,000, and those with more than Rs 500,000.
Contraband operation uncovered in rented apartment in Lalitpur: Gold, silver, and cash seized
Police have arrested six people, including four Indians, involved in illegal gold and silver trading in Lalitpur. Based on a tip-off about suspicious activities in a rented apartment on the third floor of an under-construction building in Lalitpur Metropolitan-14, Talchikhel, a team from the Satdobato Police Circle raided the location. During the raid, police apprehended six people, including Indian national Yuvraj Vibhute, who had rented the apartment. Interrogations revealed that the suspects were conducting illegal operations from multiple rented apartments in Kathmandu and Lalitpur.
NEPSE declines by a single digit, shares of 141 companies drop on Monday
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) saw a slight decline, dropping by 4.62 points on Monday, the second trading day of the week. This follows a 21.27-point increase on Sunday, the first trading day of the week. In Monday’s trading, investors in 95 companies made profits, while those in 141 companies experienced losses. The share prices of 10 companies remained unchanged. A total of 10,475,181 shares were traded, amounting to Rs 4.57 billion.
Monsoon disasters claim 70 lives, five still missing
The toll from floods and landslides triggered by relentless monsoon rains has risen to 70 fatalities, with five individuals still unaccounted for, according to the Police Headquarters. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Dan Bahadur Karki, the Central Police Spokesperson, said that as of Monday morning, 86 people have sustained injuries in incidents across the country since June 10. Those injured are currently receiving treatment in local hospitals.
CPN-UML quits Bagmati Province government
The CPN-UML has withdrawn its support given to the Bagmati Province government. UML ministers on Monday submitted their resignations to Bagmati Province Chief Minister Shalikram Jammakattel. They also announced the withdrawal of their support from the government. The departure of UML ministers comes amid a shift in political dynamics at the center, leaving the CPN-Maoist-led Bagmati government in a minority position.
