Sri Lanka suffers second defeat in T20 World Cup, Bangladesh wins by 2 wickets



KATHMANDU: Sri Lanka faced their second defeat in Group D of the T20 World Cup as Bangladesh secured a 2-wicket victory on Saturday morning.

Chasing a target of 125 runs, Bangladesh reached 126 for 8 in 19 overs.

Towhid Hridoy played a crucial role, scoring 40 runs off just 20 balls, hitting 1 four and 6 sixes.

Earlier, Sri Lanka, who lost the toss and were put to bat first, managed 124 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Pathum Nissanka was the top scorer for Sri Lanka with 47 runs off 28 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six. Dhananjaya de Silva contributed 21 runs off 26 balls, Charith Asalanka made 19 runs off 21 balls, and Angelo Mathews added 16 runs off 19 balls.

In their first match, Sri Lanka was defeated by South Africa.

This was Bangladesh’s opening match in the tournament.
