KATHMANDU: Ramesh Lekhak, Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party, has voiced concerns over the government’s apparent disregard for significant issues raised by the major opposition party in parliament.
Addressing journalists at the party’s parliamentary office in Singh Durbar on Wednesday, Chief Whip Lekhak emphasized that Nepali Congress remains steadfast in its demand for an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds in cooperatives.
He stressed the urgency of taking action against those responsible for embezzling funds entrusted by thousands of common people in cooperatives.
Highlighting the importance of the cooperative sector as a vital pillar of the national economy, Lekhak underscored the need for a thorough cleanup to restore public trust and confidence in the sector.
Contrary to speculation, Lekhak clarified that Nepali Congress is not seeking to undermine the incumbent government or form a new one in collaboration with CPN UML.
Instead, he advocated for forging minimum consensus with major political parties to address the needs and aspirations of the people.
According to Lekhak, ensuring the effectiveness of parliament is crucial to reassuring the public that their voices are heard and valued.
He warned that failure to prioritize parliamentary business could weaken the institution, emphasizing the importance of active engagement and participation in legislative processes.
Lekhak’s remarks underscore Nepali Congress’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and effective governance, as they continue to advocate for meaningful reforms and initiatives to benefit the people of Nepal.
