Ministry of Finance allocates additional 10 million rupees for by-election expenditures

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Finance has disbursed an extra 10 million rupees to cover the expenses arising from the by-elections held in Ilam and Bajhang on April 27.

In response to the heightened financial requirements of the Election Commission, the Ministry of Finance allocated supplementary funds, surpassing the ordinary budgetary provisions.

Highlighting the exceptional nature of by-elections, the ministry emphasized the necessity of additional financial support, given the absence of specific budgetary allocations for such occurrences.

As per the ministry’s directives, the augmented funds are designated for utilization by the Election Commission and District Election Offices, ensuring compliance with extant legal frameworks and approved expenditure norms.

The by-elections, conducted on April 27, witnessed contests in Ilam Constituency-2 for House of Representatives membership and Bajhang 1 (A) for Provincial Assembly representation.

Notably, Suhang Nembang of CPN-UML emerged victorious in Ilam, while Daman Bhandari of UML secured the seat in Bajhang.
