Tourist police receive 370 complaints, mostly related to goods loss



KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have reported receiving a total of 370 complaints related to tourists since the beginning of the current fiscal year 2080/81.

Among these complaints, 273 were regarding the loss of goods, 49 involved theft, 11 cases were related to cheating, five involved looting, 17 were for misbehavior, and the remaining complaints included incidents such as attacks, accidents, threats, missing persons, misconduct, and kidnapping, according to the Nepal Police Headquarters.

Deputy Inspector General Bhim Prasad Dhakal, the spokesperson for the Nepal Police Headquarters, disclosed that there were 79 complaints in fiscal year 2077/78, 180 in fiscal year 2078/79, and 532 in fiscal year 2079/80. Most of these cases were linked to the loss of documents and goods.

Chief of the Tourist Police office in Bhrikutimandap, Narendra Kunwar, emphasized that the tourist police are actively addressing tourists’ issues and complaints to ensure their safety and promote tourism development in Nepal.

They provide information, support, and conduct regular patrols in tourist areas. Additionally, they apprehend individuals engaged in illicit activities and hand them over to the relevant authorities for further action.

Kunwar highlighted that tourist police promptly address tourists’ problems and complaints, and tourists can reach out for assistance by dialing the hotline number 1144.
