General secretary Thapa voices discontent over National Assembly candidate selection



KATHMANDU: Gagan Kumar Thapa, the general secretary of the Nepali Congress, has openly expressed his discontent with the party’s recent selection of candidates for the upcoming National Assembly election.

The Central Working Committee, in its recent meeting, finalized the list of candidates, but Thapa is not on board with the decisions made.

Thapa’s dissatisfaction stems from what he perceives as a deviation from the party’s commitment to providing opportunities to long-serving yet overlooked leaders. His critique suggests that the party’s selection process falls short of delivering a much-needed fresh representation in the National Assembly.

Thapa goes further to assert that such actions by the party are in direct contradiction to principles of justice, eroding democratic practices within the party.

The selected candidates, despite the internal strife, have been announced. Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Anand Prasad Dhungana will represent Koshi Pradesh, Bishnu Devi Pudasaini and Jeetjung Basnet from Bagmati Province, Krishna Rokaya from Karnali, Narayan Dutta Bhatta and Baldev Bohara from Sudurpaschim, and Padam Bahadur Pariyar, Kiran Babu Shrestha, and Bishnu Devi Sapkota from Gandaki and Lumbini.

The inclusion of Pariyar, Shrestha, and Sapkota, all associated with the Dr. Shekhar Koirala faction, adds another layer of complexity to the situation.
