MYAGDI: In a remarkable success story, farmers from Beni Municipality-3, Bhakimli Rakhugaon of Myagdi have generated an impressive revenue of over one and a half million rupees by selling oranges.

This accomplishment stands out in light of the overall decline in orange production reported across the district this year.

Individual farmers from Rakhugaon have reaped substantial profits, with one farmer, Mankumari Pun, revealing earnings ranging between 5 to 9 lakhs from the sale of oranges.

Pun, a pioneer in orange cultivation who has been running a nursery for orange plants for the past 15 years, reported a sale of oranges worth nine lakhs this season.

Pun highlighted the shift in sales strategy this year, as she directly sold oranges from the plant to traders hailing from different districts.

Another farmer, Khim Pun, shared that 65 households in Lower and Upper Rakhu, renowned for their orange production in the district, collectively contributed to oranges worth approximately one and a half million rupees this year.

The village witnessed the production of at least 30 thousand to 9 lakh oranges.

Khim Pun, who also serves as the coordinator of the Orange Zone program, attributed the increased income to the fruitful yield from new plants this year.

Despite a decrease in overall production, he emphasized that the income for farmers engaged in orange farming has not dwindled; instead, they have earned millions right in their own backyards.
