Winter rain and snowfall likely in next two days

KATHMANDU: The Weather Forecasting Division has announced a change in weather across various parts of Nepal from Sunday evening due to the arrival of a western low-pressure system along with western winds.

In its special bulletin, the Division warned of light to moderate snowfall in the high hilly and mountainous areas of Sudurpaschim and Karnali Provinces, and in a few places of the same regions in Gandaki, Bagmati, and Koshi Provinces from Sunday evening to the night of Monday.

The bulletin further indicates that light to moderate rain is likely in some parts of Sudurpaschim, Karnali, and Lumbini Provinces, a few areas in Gandaki Province, and isolated places in the hilly regions of Bagmati and Koshi Provinces.

The weather system may also lead to a slight drop in temperature, causing increased cold conditions.

Given the anticipated weather changes, the Division has urged the general public and concerned authorities to take necessary precautions.

It warned that daily activities, health, mountaineering, and air/transportation services could be impacted due to rain, snowfall, and the accompanying cold weather.

Winter officially began in Nepal on December 1, and since then, no rainfall has occurred. The rain expected in the coming days will be classified as winter rain.
