Nepali Congress and CPN-UML to compete independently in upcoming by-elections
Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, the two ruling parties in Nepal, have announced that they will not form an alliance for the upcoming by-elections, choosing instead to compete independently.
This decision comes after a Nepali Congress meeting on Wednesday led by General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma, which assigned provincial-level responsibilities for the election campaign.
According to the party’s election coordination head, Min Bahadur Bishwakarma, the Nepali Congress sees no reason for an alliance with CPN-UML for the by-elections, given the current political context.
President Paudel offers worship to Chhathi Mata
President Ramchandra Paudel, accompanied by First Lady Sabita Paudel, offered worship to the goddess Chhathi Mata on the occasion of Chhath Festival, 2081.
President Paudel reached the Chhath puja sites in Gaurighat and Kamalpokhari of Kathmandu this afternoon and made ritual offerings to Chhathi Mata. The President and the First Lady offered Argha to the setting sun in both places.
Office-bearers of Chhath Puja Organising Committee at both places—Guhyeshwori and Kamalpokhari – welcomed President Paudel on the occasion.
Devotees worship setting sun on third day of Chhath
On the third day of the four-day Chhath Festival, devotees gathered at the banks of Kamal Pokhari in Kathmandu to offer prayers to the setting sun.
The festival will conclude on Friday morning when devotees will make their offerings to the rising sun. Similar gatherings took place at Guheshwari and along the Bagmati River in Kupondole, where devotees offered prayers to the setting sun.
Koshi Minister’s associates paid Rs 1.3 million for Japan trip amid trafficking allegations
A human trafficking scandal has erupted in Koshi Province after it was revealed that individuals who accompanied former Internal Affairs and Law Minister Lila Balav Adhikari to Japan paid large sums of money to secure the trip.
In statements to officials at the District Police Range, Kathmandu, the arrested individuals disclosed that they had each paid between Rs 1 and 1.3 million rupees to join the ministerial visit.
Following intense scrutiny, Adhikari resigned from his post on Wednesday. The District Police Range is now investigating six individuals, including three who traveled with the minister and three others allegedly involved in forging official documents.
Weather delays final stages of Gwarko Flyover construction
The completion of the Gwarko Flyover in Lalitpur will be delayed by an additional three months.
Although much of the construction work is nearing completion, the flyover is still not ready for traffic operation.
Construction, which had previously been halted due to rain, has now resumed.
RSP opts for primary elections to finalize local level by-election candidates
The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to finalize its candidates for the local level by-elections through the primary elections process.
The Central Election Coordinating Committee, chaired by Central Member and Member of Parliament Ganesh Parajuli, held a meeting to finalize the schedule for the preliminary elections.
The nomination registration period has been set from November 7 to 10, with voting and the final decision on candidates scheduled for November 13.
Prachanda urges transformation of challenges into opportunities
Chairman of Maoist Centre Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has expressed his belief that the Chhath festival will inspire people to move toward prosperity.
In a message shared today, Dahal extended his warm wishes to Nepalis both at home and abroad, marking the occasion of Chhath, a festival celebrated with great enthusiasm, particularly in the Tarai-Madhes region, where people worship the rising sun.
He stated, “I offer my best wishes to all Nepali citizens, confident that the Chhath festival will encourage us to transform challenges into opportunities, instill hope in our personal and social lives, unite the nation, and lead us toward better governance, social justice, and economic progress.”
