Death toll from floods and landslides reaches 246

The death toll from recent floods and landslides has risen to 246, according to Nepal Police.

The latest figures indicate that 18 individuals remain missing, while 178 people have sustained injuries.

Meanwhile, 139 of the deceased are from Bagmati province, including 70 from the Kathmandu Valley.

Newly-appointed Australian Ambassador meets Foreign Minister Rana

Leann Johnston, the newly-appointed Ambassador of Australia to Nepal, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana today.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on enhancing and deepening cooperation between Nepal and Australia in areas of mutual interest, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

NEPSE index up by 37.13 points to close at 2,690.72

The NEPSE Index on Monday rose by 37.13 points (1.39%), finishing at 2,690.72.

This follows a notable increase of approximately 93.22 points over the past two trading days, after a gain of 56.09 points yesterday.

During the trading session, the market displayed volatility, opening at 2,656.8 points and briefly dipping to an intraday low of 2,656.35 before climbing to a peak of 2,707.16 points.

Public transport and air tickets scarce for Dashain

The number of people leaving Kathmandu for their hometowns to celebrate Dashain has surged, making it increasingly difficult to secure long-distance public transport and air tickets.

Bharat Bahadur Bohara, Chief of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office and Deputy Inspector General of Police, reported that 363,164 people have departed from the Kathmandu Valley between September 30 and October 6 for the Bada Dashain festivities.

Foreign Minister Rana urges action to safeguard Nepalis in Lebanon and Israel

Dr. Arzu Rana, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, has instructed Nepalese embassies in Israel and Lebanon to closely monitor the safety of Nepalis in those countries amid growing concerns.

During virtual meetings with the Nepali ambassadors in both nations, she gathered updates on the current situation.

Dr. Rana emphasized the importance of maintaining communication with Nepalis residing there and called for effective support and assistance.

Gold prices down by Rs 500 per tola today

The prices of gold and silver decreased in the Nepali market today.

On Monday, gold fell by Rs 500, bringing the price to Rs 160,500 per tola, according to the Nepal Gold and Silver Traders Federation.

This drop follows Sunday’s trading price of Rs 161,000 per tola.

Similarly, silver prices also decreased. Today, silver traded at Rs 1,980 per tola, according to the Federation.

President Paudel offers prayers at Dakshinkali Temple

President Ram Chandra Paudel, accompanied by his spouse Sabita Paudel, visited Dakshinkali Temple this morning to offer prayers to the Goddess Dakshinkali.

They received tika and prasad from the temple priest during their visit. Located in Dakshinkali Municipality, south of Kathmandu, the temple is one of the major Shaktipeeths, attracting large crowds during the Dashain festival.

Nepal Airlines to fly its A320 to Bhairahawa

The national flag bearer, Nepal Airlines Corporation, is going to make a rescue flight to Bhairahawa from Kathmandu and vice-versa on October 10, the day of Fulpati under the Bada Dashain festival.

The NAC has decided to conduct Kathmandu-Bhairahawa-Kathmandu rescue flight to help people reach to their destination in view of the Dashain festival.
