KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli has urged civil servants to help shape Nepal into a ‘non-corrupt’ nation by providing efficient services and avoiding involvement in corrupt practices.
On the occasion of the 21st Civil Service Day, Prime Minister Oli emphasized that corruption is akin to stealing from the entire country simultaneously.
He stressed the importance of not participating in corrupt activities, stating, “Corruption is a crime that cannot happen without your involvement. Record the activities of corrupt leaders. Leaders who say one thing but do another should not be condoned or excused.”
He underscored that each individual must contribute to Nepal’s prosperity, ensuring that public services are delivered without delay.
Prime Minister Oli urged civil servants to act in accordance with the constitution, laws, and the principles of faith, duty, and morality inherent in Nepali culture.
Oli assured that the current government, supported by a majority of reform-oriented parties, is committed to expediting important legislation, including the Civil Service Bill.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to respecting trade union rights and addressing grievances from all sectors.
The Prime Minister criticized the practice of lockdowns and strikes in essential services, calling such actions inappropriate and counterproductive.
He noted that recent protests and attempts to undermine the government through chaos and rumors are not reflective of Nepali values.
Oli also highlighted past efforts to boost employee morale by increasing salaries by 25 percent, but acknowledged the current economic challenges.
He expressed optimism that with continued focus on economic empowerment, conditions will improve.
