Finance Minister Pun questions NC and UML over panic on corruption files

KATHMANDU: Deputy General Secretary of the CPN-Maoist Center and Finance Minister, Barshaman Pun, has stated that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ will not resign merely because of demands from others.

Speaking to reporters after Sunday’s House of Representatives meeting, Pun highlighted that the Prime Minister has scheduled a date to seek a vote of confidence, and thus, will not succumb to pressure from the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML.

He mentioned that PM Dahal would address the rumors about the two major parties conspiring to amend the constitution without the involvement of the Maoists.

Pun questioned why the Constitution amendment is being pursued without including the Maoists, who are also key stakeholders.

The Finance Minister accused NC and UML of retreating from their commitments to republicanism, federalism, proportional representation, and inclusivity, asserting that such a move is unacceptable.

He also alleged that the NC and UML are alarmed by the government’s steps towards good governance.

Pun challenged them by asking, “Why are you panicking when we start addressing major corruption cases? We question whether the Congress and UML are on the side of corruption and against good governance. If we receive a satisfactory answer, we will accept it. Rest assured, this government will not engage in unethical practices.”
