KATHMANDU: In the context of Bharatpur Visit Year 2024, the historic Diyalo Bangala Palace in Chitwan has been opened to the public for viewing starting today.

Inaugurating the event on Sunday, Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Hit Bahadur Tamang officially opened the Diyalo Bangala Palace for public observation.

Constructed in 1962 AD, the palace has been made accessible to the public through the efforts of the Nepal Trust and Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

Speaking at the event, Minister Tamang highlighted the significance of Diyalo Bangala in making Bharatpur Visit Year 2024 a success.

He noted that opening the palace, once used by former kings for governance and administration across the country, for public study and observation is a significant move.

Situated in the central part of the country, the minister expressed confidence that Diyalo Bangala will become an important destination for both national and international tourists.

Bharatpur Metropolitan Mayor Renu Dahal emphasized the importance of opening the palace to the public as part of the various plans for Bharatpur Visit Year 2024.

She mentioned that initiatives such as operating the Wildlife Rescue Center as an open zoo and facilitating the easy arrival of Indian tourists through the Thori customs post have been implemented.

Sunita Gautam, Member Secretary of the Nepal Trust, remarked that the palace tour provides insight into the luxurious lifestyle of former kings.

Located in Bharatpur Ward No. 1, the palace is historically significant due to the death of King Mahendra.

It was often used as a winter residence by the royal family, earning it the name “Winter Palace.” The Diyalo Bangala area spans 52 bighas.
