BIRGUNJ, PARSA: Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun has vowed to maintain transparency while determining the rate of revenues in the budget statement for the next fiscal year 2024/25.

Speaking at the interaction program on ‘revenue consultations and budget preparation’ organized by the Ministry of Finance and the Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry today, he stated that due to the controversies surrounding fluctuations in tax rates in previous years, the upcoming fiscal year’s budget statement will provide clear explanations with reasons for any changes in tax rates.

Finance Minister Pun also pledged not to alter tax or revenue rates to favor any specific individual or industry.

“We are working to ensure there are no controversies in tax rates this year. We will establish clear thresholds and proceed accordingly,” he emphasized.

He assured support for establishing Birgunj as an ‘economic city’ as demanded by local industrialists and businesspersons.

He reiterated the federal government’s commitment to developing Birgunj as an industrial city.

“Pokhara was recently declared the tourism capital. The Prime Minister himself attended the declaration ceremony organized by Pokhara’s local government and Gandaki Province, announcing Pokhara as the tourism capital.

The demand from Birgunj’s industrialists and businesspersons to declare it as an ‘economic city’ is highly encouraging.

The federal government will support if Birgunj Metropolitan City and the Madhes Province propose the same,” stated the Finance Minister.

He described Birgunj as both an industrial city and the economic capital, mentioning plans to develop Birgunj as a special economic zone.

He emphasized that the government will move forward in alignment with the desires and aspirations of the people.

Calling upon politicians, the business community, civil society, and bureaucrats to collaborate and contribute to the country’s development and prosperity, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to formulating policies to safeguard the industrial sector.
