Simplify health insurance payback process, urges Prime Minister

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has advocated for streamlining the payback system of health insurance to enhance its effectiveness and service orientation. Speaking at the Eighth Health Insurance Day event, the PM emphasized the need to make the joint-payment system facilitated by the Health Insurance Board more user-friendly. He highlighted the importance of online membership registration, timely claim processing, and technology integration in the insurance scheme, citing them as crucial reformative measures.

Electoral laws are being revised to ensure timely update: Home Minister Lamichhane

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane has stated that he is internally eager to revise political party and election management laws. After receiving a briefing on the proposed bill related to the Election Commission on Sunday, Minister Lamichhane responded to the media, saying, “I am very confident that this will be a significant leap forward. We have deliberated on this with the aim of strengthening democracy.” The Ministry of Home Affairs is indicating that it will present bills for major amendments to the electoral laws in Parliament.

Lumbini CM Mahara and three ministers swear-in to office on Sunday

Newly appointed Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Jokh Bahadur Mahara, has taken the oath as the Chief Minister. Alongside Mahara, Chet Narayan Acharya from the CPN-UML parliamentary party, Bhandari Lal Ahir Yadav from the coalition partners, as well as Dipendra Pun from the CPN-Maoist Center, have taken the oath of ministerial positions. The newly appointed ministers have not yet been assigned ministerial responsibilities.

Khagaraj Adhikari appointed as Chief Minister of Gandaki Province

Khagaraj Adhikari, the parliamentary party leader of CPN-UML, has officially been appointed as the Chief Minister of Gandaki Province. Adhikari’s appointment follows his claim to the position, supported by 31 lawmakers, including 22 from CPN-UML, eight from the Maoist Center (including the Speaker), and Independent lawmaker Deepak Manange. Province Chief Dilli Raj Bhatta appointed Adhikari to the post in accordance with Article 168(2) of the Constitution of Nepal.

NC protests against UML leader Adhikari’s appointment as Gandaki CM

Nepali Congress (NC) has lodged a formal protest against the appointment of the CPN-UML parliamentary party leader Khagaraj Adhikari as Gandaki Chief Minister. NC submitted a protest letter to Province Head Dilliraj Bhatta on Sunday, urging him to nullify the appointment, citing the unconstitutional nature of the process. Nanda Prasad Neupane, NC Chief Whip, labeled the inclusion of the Speaker’s vote in the nomination process prior to his resignation as unconstitutional.

Nepali Congress appoints Sharma and Saud as by-election coordinators

Nepali Congress, the main opposition party, has designated Bishwa Prakash Sharma, the party’s general secretary, and NP Saud as coordinators for the upcoming by-elections. Scheduled to take place on April 27, the by-elections will be held in Ilam-2 and Bhajang-1 constituencies. Nepali Congress has put forward Dambar Khadka as the candidate for Ilam-2 and Abhishek Singh for Bhajang-1.

Election Commission invites complaints against candidates for by-election

The Election Commission has issued a call for complaints against candidates contesting in the upcoming by-elections in Ilam-2 and Bhajang-1, scheduled for April 27. Interested individuals wishing to file complaints have today as the deadline, with the Election Commission accepting submissions from 10 am to 3 pm on Sunday. In the event of any complaints being lodged, the Election Commission will adjudicate on them and announce its decision by 5 pm.

Gold prices hit new all-time high: Reaches Rs 135,600 per tola

Gold prices have reached unprecedented levels, with fine gold hitting a new high of Rs 135,600 per tola on Thursday. This surge of Rs 2,500 per tola builds upon an already record-breaking increase in recent times. As reported by the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of fine gold has now been set at Rs 135,600 per tola, while standard gold is being traded at Rs 134,950 per tola.
