Foreign Minister Shrestha urges Russian counterpart for swift repatriation of deceased Nepalis

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha has reached out to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, requesting expedited repatriation of the bodies of deceased Nepali nationals, provision of compensation to their families, and facilitation for the return of Nepali citizens serving in the Russian Army.

DPM Shrestha conveyed these urgent requests during a telephone conversation with Lavrov on Thursday.

Expressing gratitude for the initiation of the compensation process, DPM Shrestha urged for its prompt conclusion, as per a press release issued by the Foreign Ministry.

In response, Lavrov assured the Nepali side of the Russian Ministry’s full support in addressing these concerns.

Additionally, during their discussion, Lavrov congratulated DPM Shrestha on assuming office and extended his best wishes. He also expressed readiness to collaborate with Nepal on various fronts, including trade, tourism, and culture.

Furthermore, the two Foreign Ministers deliberated on various aspects of Nepal-Russia relations, including issues pertaining to Nepali citizens serving in the Russian Army.
