KATHMANDU: In today’s session of the House of Representatives, Ramesh Lekhak, Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress, informed the parliament that his party, now in the opposition, would serve as a ‘constructive opposition’ following the shift in the power dynamic.

He explained that the Nepali Congress withdrew its support due to the formation of a new alliance ‘without any reason,’ despite his party’s honest and goodwill gestures towards the former ruling coalition.

Lekhak extended best wishes to the reconstituted government led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ hoping it succeeds in safeguarding the constitution, consolidating the political system, and ensuring lasting peace, good governance, prosperity, and stability in the country.

UML Vice-Chair Poudel expressed confidence that the current government and ruling alliance would endure until the parliament’s remaining term.

He considered the new party alliance as natural, given that no single party holds a majority in the parliament.

Poudel congratulated PM Dahal for initiating the alliance and emphasized its focus on addressing national issues.

CPN-Maoist Center lawmaker Devendra Paudel predicted the continuity of the ruling alliance for the next four years, emphasizing the importance of stability.

He acknowledged past mistakes and stressed the need for national consensus to build a prosperous nation.

Chief Whip of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Santosh Pariyar, explained that his party joined the government to seek solutions to the raised questions, expressing the party’s commitment to leaving the government if it fails to deliver for the nation and people.

Rajendra Lingden, Chairperson of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, highlighted the necessity of a new national consensus to address the country’s existing problems.

He urged the government to present concrete programs for resolving issues faced by victims of loan sharks, cooperatives, and dairy farmers.

Lingden stressed the importance of the government providing substantive responses to queries raised by opposition parties.
