KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has rejected Resham Chaudhary as the chair of the Nagarik Unmukti Party-Nepal.

On Wednesday, the Commission decided to affirm the continuity of Ranjita Shrestha as the chair, as confirmed by Joint Secretary Yagya Bhattarai.

“There was a request for an update. According to the Political Parties Act, if someone is found ineligible, the update is not carried out, and the previous leadership is maintained,” he stated.

Nagarik Unmukti had selected Resham as the chair during the party’s convention held in Tikapur, Kailali, on January 12.

Following the convention’s decision, the central committee ‘s name was sent to EC for update.

Alongside the update request, two objections were also filed.

Following these objections, EC had asked Resham Chaudhary and the Nagarik Unmukti to clarify whether the murder convict granted amnesty by the President could be relieved of the former charges.
