Unified Socialist withdraws support from Sudurpaschim provincial govt

KATHMANDU: The CPN (Unified Socialist) has officially announced the withdrawal of its support from the Sudurpaschim Provincial government.

In a significant political move, the party has terminated its alliance with the Nepali Congress and has instead opted to join the new coalition government composed of the CPN (Maoist Center), CPN-UML, and RSP at the central level, effective Wednesday.

As a consequence of this decision, the CPN (Unified Socialist) has also withdrawn its support from the provincial government.

Naresh Kumar Shahi, the Minister for Economic Affairs in the province, tendered his resignation amidst the political realignment during a meeting with Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah.

The Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly currently has four lawmakers representing the Unified Socialist party.

The party is expected to convene a parliamentary committee meeting to formally decide on the withdrawal of its support from the government.

With both the CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist) withdrawing their support, the government led by the Nepali Congress in the province is now left without a majority.

To form a government in the province, a majority of 27 lawmakers is required.

However, CM Shah now only has the support of 25 lawmakers, including 18 from the Nepali Congress and seven from the Nagarik Unmukti Party.
