KATHMANDU: Padam Giri, Chief Whip of the CPN (UML), emphasized the need for the government to enhance its accountability to ensure the effective functioning of the House.

During a session of the House of Representatives today, Giri advised the government to take greater responsibility for parliamentary operations, the establishment of good governance, and the delivery of services.

He expressed concern over the previous session’s lack of productivity, citing only one act passed and delays in selecting parliamentary committee leadership as hindrances to House functioning.

Giri welcomed the session schedule presented by the Speaker and urged the government to support its successful implementation.

He stated that the UML, as the major opposition party, would prioritize raising issues related to citizens’ development concerns.

Furthermore, Giri called on the government to address the aspirations and needs of citizens outlined in a memorandum submitted by party Chair KP Sharma Oli to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ during their Jhulaghat-Chiwabhanjyang resolution journey.

The UML Chief Whip emphasized the importance of effectively implementing programs such as the Prime Minister Employment and Social Security initiatives.

He urged swift action from the government to aid Nepalis serving in the Russian Army and to assist Bipin Joshi, reportedly under Hamas control in Israel.

Giri also demanded government intervention to address frequent increases in bank interest rates and cases of misappropriation in cooperatives, ensuring justice for those affected.

He called for the implementation of investigation reports on issues such as the Ncell share sale and purchase.

Overall, Giri’s statements underscored the necessity for increased government accountability and proactive measures to address various challenges facing Nepali citizens.
