British Gurkha ex-servicemen protest in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Former British Gurkha soldiers demonstrated in Kathmandu, demanding the implementation of the Supreme Court’s decision in their favor.

Despite the historic decision in their favor by the Supreme Court, which was made a year ago, the British Gurkha Army Ex-Servicemen’s Organization (BGAESO) – Singapore Gurkhas Department, expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of implementation.

They staged a protest rally, including opposition rallies in the serene surroundings of Ratnapark in Kathmandu.

Having awaited the government’s compliance with the court order for a year, the Gurkhas took to the streets in protest.

Although the Gurkhas engage in risky tasks compared to others, they have been fighting for equal pay, service, facilities, pensions, and the establishment of a separate army for soldiers on rent, as the state does not provide them.

The British Gurkha ex-servicemen have communicated their struggles in the protest.

Those participating in the protest displayed placards highlighting international human rights values, urging the implementation of the Supreme Court’s decision, and raising other pertinent issues. The tripartite agreement regarding Gurkha recruitment was annulled by the Supreme Court last year on February 7.
