KATHMANDU: During today’s National Assembly (NA) session, lawmakers brought various contemporary issues to the government’s attention, spanning from the immediate need for earthquake survivors’ relief to the significant outmigration of the youth population.
In the zero-hour segment of the session, Kumar Dasaudi urged the government to appoint a competent figure in the Nepal Telecommunications Authority for enhanced effectiveness, while Khimlal Devkota emphasized the need to strengthen the parliamentary domain at parliament.gov.np.
Devkota pointed out the Federal Parliament Secretariat’s challenges related to understaffing and called on the government to address the matter.
Dil Kumari Rawal Thapa (Parbati) stressed the importance of protecting the historically, religiously, and culturally significant Valmiki Ashram in Chitwan, along with improving road connectivity in the area.
Dipa Gurung expressed concerns about the ineffective distribution of relief to the survivors of the November 3 Jajarkot earthquake.
She informed the House that, among the survivors, vulnerable groups such as new mothers, children, and the elderly are particularly affected by the cold weather this winter. Gurung urged the government to ensure their safety promptly.
Bhairav Sundar Shrestha, through the NA Chair, informed the government that earthquake-affected individuals have yet to receive the government grants intended for building temporary shelters.
Dr. Bimala Rai Poudyal called on the government to update the House on a report prepared by the investigation committee regarding the deaths of Sujan Raut from Dailekh and Birendra Shah from Doti in a police clash in Gwarko, Lalitpur, on December 29, 2019.
Singha Bahadur Bishwakarma expressed concern about the rising issue of unemployment in Nepal and the increasing migration of youth abroad for job opportunities. He emphasized the need for the government to launch a search and rescue operation for the 77 people reported missing abroad, particularly in Sindhupalchowk.
