Kathmandu’s temperature drops to 12.4°C as cold intensifies

KATHMANDU: The cold has suddenly intensified, with temperatures in Kathmandu dropping from 13 degrees Celsius.

Each day feels colder, and the minimum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley has now fallen even lower than it was on Tuesday.

According to Meteorologist Sanjeev Adhikari, the Valley’s minimum temperature was recorded at 12.4 degrees Celsius at 5:45 am today (Wednesday).

This marks a decline from Tuesday’s minimum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius, the lowest recorded since the onset of the monsoon/post-monsoon season.

“If the night sky is clear, meaning there are no clouds, the minimum temperature will decrease further in the morning,” explained Adhikari.

“Additionally, if the sun does not shine in the afternoon, the maximum temperature will also be lower.”

The minimum temperature refers to the lowest temperature recorded within a 24-hour period, while the maximum temperature indicates the highest.

Typically, the minimum temperature is measured at 8:45 am and the maximum at 5:45 pm each day.

He noted that temperatures are gradually decreasing not only in Kathmandu Valley but throughout the country as winter approaches.

Currently, Nepal is experiencing the post-monsoon season, which began after the monsoon ended on October 12, following its arrival on June 10.

This post-monsoon period lasts throughout November, with winter officially starting in December.
