KATHMANDU: Chairman of Maoist Centre Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ honored Palesha Govardhan, who won a bronze medal at the Paralympics 2024, in a ceremony held at Khumaltar today.
In addition to Palesha, Dahal also felicitated instructor Kabiraj Negi Lama, manager Ram Chandra Shrestha, and Palesha’s father, Pradip.
Speaking at the event, Dahal emphasized that Palesha’s achievement has made Nepalis around the world proud.
“Securing a medal at the Paralympics for the first time in Nepal’s history is an extraordinary feat, offering an opportunity for Nepalis everywhere to feel a sense of pride,” he said.
Dahal also highlighted the role of sports in fostering national unity, economic prosperity, and international diplomacy, and wished Palesha success in future Olympic events.
Dahal described Palesha’s victory as a significant milestone in Nepal’s international history and urged the State to increase investment in the sports sector.
He also expressed gratitude and congratulations to the instructor, manager, the Taekwondo Association, and Palesha’s family for their contributions to this achievement.
During the ceremony, bronze-medalist Palesha shared her experiences from the Paris Paralympics and expressed her determination to aim for a gold medal in the next Olympics.
Instructor Lama, manager Shrestha, Nepal Taekwondo Association President Prakash Shumsher Rana, General Secretary Deep Raj Gurung, National Sports Council (NSC) member-secretary Tanka Lal Ghising, and Palesha’s father Pradip also shared their views at the event.
