Govt appoints AIG Deepak Thapa as new CIB chief, transfers AIG Shyamlal Gyawali

KATHMANDU: The government has transferred Shyamlal Gyawali, the head of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), and appointed AIG Deepak Thapa as the new Chief of the CIB.

Gyawali was appointed to the CIB post in March 2024 by Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, following the transfer of AIG Kiran Bajracharya to the Nepal Police Headquarters Operations Department amidst controversy surrounding a gold smuggling case.

With the recent change in government, Gyawali has now been transferred to the Provincial Coordination Department.

AIG Deepak Thapa has been appointed as the new Chief of the CIB, effective immediately.
