3,500 tourists visit Panauti Museum

KAVREPALANCHOWK: A total of 3,500 foreign tourists have visited the museum established in the Indreshwar temple complex in Panauti in the past one year.

This museum is the first and only museum in the district.

According to the head of the museum, Rajendra Mahaju, the number in the last financial year is the highest for several past years.

The number was 4,000 visitors in the previous fiscal year but also including domestic tourists.

The museum was established about 15 years ago as a repository of various artifacts reflecting religious, historical and cultural significance of the historical town of Panauti.

Old coins, paper currency notes, locally used household items are also on display in the museum along with sculptures from the Malla period and Shah period, woodwork samples, various costumes and old weapons from the ancient times.

The municipality office is taking initiatives to get Panauti listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.
